You are always forgiven

Dear dad,
After that big fight we had, I purposely did not want to talk to you if I could help it. I only said 2-3 words to you per conversation. I didn't give you my attention. I didn't tell you anything you didn't need to know. I didn't show you any affection. You must have noticed that.

When a person cannot bring himself to say "I'm sorry" to you, there's a chance you may never speak to him again. There's also a chance you forgive him in silence and just forget the wrongs that have been done to you. For me, it was always the latter. But this time, I chose to wait him out. The words "I'm sorry" never came.

Then I realized that this was my stepfather we're talking about. He's such a beautifully made creature... I can never figure him out. I also cannot stay mad at him. I was never really gonna never forgive him. I already forgave him when he gave me a tiny smile, though I did not smile back.

You never wanna know you never forgave a person when something unexpected occurs. Tonight, my father is out helping a friend. From Selangor all the way to Seremban. Sitting in the Seremban hospital waiting with a friend for the news of his mother's condition. Who does that? My father does that. Before he left, I wanted so badly to hug him. To say more to him then just "Drive safe". So... I did. The thing is, I think he wanted to hug me too. "Please be safe pa..."

"I will always forgive you. Always."

The both of us are so imperfect but a perfect relationship is all I can think of. We hurt each other with words, actions. But there is always forgiveness. Just not many "I'm sorry-s".

I love you, pa. You know I do.

Still waiting

I just want to watch the sunset with somebody. Somebody special. I'd be willing to even watch a starless sky considering I'm living in Malaysia where the stars don't show themselves that often. Something. I want something to happen.

My life isn't boring. I know it isn't. It's just that sometimes, the interesting things that do happen in my life aren't the interesting things I want to happen in my life. I know, I know... I shouldn't mess with God's plan, but I wish I knew what I should be learning from all these occasions at least.

Too many things happen at the same time. Too many. But I'm still waiting for prince charming. If there even is one.

Praying about it day and night...

Dreams versus Reality

Even with that thought in mind, there's more to life than just my dreams. I'm a big believer when it comes to dreaming. I'm a dreamer. Full stop. But today, I learned something.

"My reality may be more important than my dreams"

I mean I've always known that but to see it happen right before my eyes is something I wasn't expecting.

I had this dream last night. It was a confusing dream, but a beautiful dream nonetheless. It was with this boy. The reality is, this boy had a different dream. Or rather, a different reality. He's been living a life I didn't even know about. A life that seems to grab my attention more than the dream I just had. It's the total opposite of what you're thinking. My dream involved flowers and fairy tales, his involved pain and frustration. So, do I dwell on my beautiful dream, or start living this reality with him and figure out our problems together? What do you think?

The decision I've made, or rather am making, is in process. Nothing is ever easy. And not everything is about dreaming. I could dream up all the beauty of the world and it would never be enough. So I'm trying to make my reality as beautiful as my dreams. Our reality. He has now become more important to me than I thought he could be. Ever. So, I guess it's safe to say he has found his way into my heart in his own little way. Whether he knows it or not ;)

Reality wins over dreaming, but I'm still never gonna stop being a dreamer :)

Happy Mothers Day, mummy :)

"One of a kind." "I will never have another." "She was my one and only." What else am I supposed to say about my mother? Hmmm...

When I was younger, I somehow knew I had to capture this image of my mum and I together. I would go back to every time I hugged her, or rather, she hugged me, and try to remember it vividly in my head. I never could, because there was always a new one.

I could never remember how she managed to break the bad news in my life to me. I never knew just how 'tough' I supposedly had it. It never felt that way for me. Life was never difficult. So many people have come up to me and said that "Your life is so hard, how do you do it?" Do what? I supposedly had it tough since I was young. My mom was single after my own dad left her. I was a baby, I didn't know better. Along with my grandparents, her parents, she had to raise me alone for a while. She was a working single mother. She was still my mother. As a kid, I never felt like I was missing anything. As a one-year-old kid, I honestly thought I had the world. I couldn't have asked for more love in my life. Well, I was only one. It's true though, my parents divorced. My dad left but was still part of my life. I do believe he loves me, up to this day. My mum ultimately had full custody of me. I think that was a no-brainer. So, God gave me to her, and I'm pretty sure it was for good reason. At one point in my life, I would've believed people if they told me I wasn't meant to be here. That I was an 'accident baby'. I don't believe that now. I assure you I don't. I never knew why I was so blessed with such a great mother though. If any of my past indicates anything, I certainly haven't done much worthy of her.

On December 16th 1997, my mum married my now stepfather. Who I'd rather refer to as my father. I was  2-years-old. I don't think she got married just for me. She honestly fell in love, with the right man this time, I believe. What other reason would she have to marry someone 18 years older than her? Many of my friends are still shocked when I tell them the age difference between my parents. Growing up with a stepfather was not easy. And when my sister came along 2 years later, things didn't get any easier. I had my own kind of 'Cinderella Story' I guess. But it wasn't as bad as I thought it was back then. Back then, all I saw was the bad. From the ages 4 to 12, I never knew exactly just how to be grateful. All I focused on then was how my father favored my sister over me. Which I can tell you, and he can tell you too, was true. I remember every hurtful thing he said to me if I were to do something wrong. I remember him only ever tucking my sister in at night and kissing only her goodnight. The way he loved her, was different from the way he loved me. This is a little hard to explain.

My mother on the other hand, was my own personal angel. She always knew how I felt. She knew. She cried when I cried. She held me when I was kicking and screaming. She never left me alone when I said I wanted to be left alone. She said "I will love you enough for the both of us." She never said she loved me more, she made it clear she loved both my sister and I equally. But only I needed to hear those words. I always felt I needed the extra love from her, and I selfishly got it. Later on, I found out from my relatives that she was loving me more. She was favoring me despite my flaws and imperfections. I just couldn't see it. They saw it very clearly.

My mum knew me way too well. From the clothes I liked to wear, to what I loved to eat. My mum was always multi-talented. She baked, cooked, gardened, crostitched, crocheted, played the piano/organ, did ballet, sang (in church choir)... Her talents kinda got split between my sister and I. It's pretty amazing to inherit even just one of her talents, because I honestly think she was great at all of the above. She studied hotel management after high school. Got her degree and all that. When I was about 7 to 10 years old, she started teaching tuition. First the young ones, by the Smart Readers program, then she went on to teach Primary school English and BM. No wonder I like language subjects, right? She mostly focused on teaching English. But she only taught while we lived in Sabah. Yeap, did I forget to mention we moved a lot as a family? When I was four and a half, we moved to Tawau, Sabah. At age 11, we moved to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. When I was 13, we moved back here. My mum was born in Penang by the way. The rest of us are just plain KL born.

All the moves were work related, until that last one. The last one came unexpected. I had already started Form 1, got my braces on the first day of school and everything. One month into school, I had Sports Day. When my dad came to pick me up, it was the first time I ever saw him cry. Since then, I've seen him cry numerous amount of times. Believe me, my dad is a real man. My mom's checkup went unexpected, that's why our move was unexpected. The cancer was unexpected. I think I took it well. And that went against my favor because I think that was the exact moment I was named the strongest girl ever by the people around me. I did not cry. I couldn't, but I would cry alone. When I was 100% no one was around. What I was good at was pretending. I acted exactly how she wanted me to. Like nothing was really wrong. Maybe I shouldn't have. This was more hardship in my life. And still, I could never see it that way. Cause my mom was still with me. I couldn't see what everyone else around me was seeing.

I lived a regular teenage life. I basically went through the same motions and emotions as every other teenager. Getting involved with the popular crowd in school. Trying my best to look pretty, to stand out. I also tried hard in school. Kissing up to my teachers, trying to please my friends in all that I did. I wanted to be good at everything. I eventually learnt I couldn't do that.

I was a lazy kid. One of my worst qualities. I am still pretty lazy actually. My mom loved me all the same. When I was rebellious, when I first got involved with a boy. (Yeah, I went there.) She never judged me. We went shopping together. We watched movies in our own living room. We watched our favorite TV series, ie: 7th Heaven. When her body started failing her, she would hold on to my arm. She then had to use a walker, and then a wheelchair. Still, we went shopping. We even watched a movie at the cinema. Our very last movie together at the cinema was the "Hannah Montana Movie". It meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to us. The song "The Climb" was one of my mum's favorites after the show. I even had the pleasure of singing it to her at the hospital with my sister. She did wind up in the hospital a few times. When she fell down, when her breathing was inconsistent. I would always be in school, being a normal teenager. I'd visit her when my family members allowed me to. She was eventually bedridden.

I started to realize that I wasn't being treated the same anymore. Sure, some people would show me more compassion and pity, but others treated me as if I were an adult. I was 13, 14, 15-years-old! Far from being an adult. But I apparently handled myself properly. It wasn't just cause I didn't cry, it was because I was coping in school. Getting average grades, doing well in Koku. And at home, all this was happening. What people didn't know was, I handled myself worst at home. I still had the nerve to answer back to my parents, watch too much TV, spent way too little time with my mom. I could be called a terrible daughter at this point, but I had no idea why God gave me so many chances to redeem myself. I would always have these moments of longing for my mother. That's when I'd climb into her bed, and have her hold me. Or sometimes, just stroke my hair. I loved that.

Towards the end of it all, she made videos of herself telling us exactly what we needed to hear. Even with her cancer changing her appearance, she was still so beautiful. I feel honored every time someone tells me I resemble my mother. I cannot take it and start crying on the inside. I cry real tears when I'm alone. She was so beautiful. True beauty was exactly what my mother was. She prayed to God that she'd be alive to see me through my PMR, and I'd always be selfish and ask that she be at my wedding. Meet her first grandchild. I told her to walk me down the aisle, help me name my first child. Yeah, I like to think far into the future. But God granted her prayer. She saw me through my PMR, and then she left. During the last few days we all knew was critical, I was busy preparing for a talent competition in my school. I told you, I was being a normal teenager. The day she passed away, I was at a friend's house. Rehearsing. The next day was my competition and last day of school. I went. We got 2nd place. It didn't matter. Because I was singing for her, only and always for her. My voice is a gift from God, I know that. So was hers. As a kid who thought the world of her mother, I always hoped that I could sing like her one day, and now I try my best to. That was the talent I was blessed enough to inherit from my mother. On her last birthday alive, I sang her a song I wrote. Last year on her birthday, I sang her favourite Carrie Underwood song at SFX Got Talent "Don't Forget To Remember Me". She was always afraid of being forgotten, how could she ever be, I always said to her. This year, I visited her at Nilai Cemetery. I still sing to her every time I have a chance to perform in front of people, and when a melody starts to form around my words, I'll think of her beautiful voice.

I didn't have much time with my mother. But some of you here still do. I'd give anything to still have that. I don't want to make you feel guilty in any way. If anyone were to feel guilt, it'd be me. I was far from the perfect daughter, and my mother knew she wasn't perfect either. But thinking back now, I can't seem to find one thing she did wrong while raising me. I know I can't be perfect, but I pray to God someday I'll be half the mother she was. I always say to myself how unfair it is to others that the best mother in the world was given to me, but I was wrong in saying so. My mother was my mother. Your mother is yours. My mother gave me everything, taught me everything. Loved me as her everything. She became my everything. Your mother should be the same for you. So, as I see my mother as my superhero and angel, so is your mother to you. She will always be your angel. Watching out for you as my mother is watching over me. Holding you while my mother is holding me from above. Loving you with all her heart, the same way my mother has never stopped loving me since the day I was born.

She deserves this sharing

I can't wait for my sharing now. Can't believe I was given this opportunity to share about something  someone so close to my heart. My mother. It doesn't matter that it got postponed from today to next week. I'm still speaking in front of people. People whom I hope to inspire, get through to. Let's pray everything turns out the way it's supposed to. All according to His plan. Promise to be with me, okay Lord? I need you, I need the strength and confidence to do this. Share about my mother to my church youth and more. She deserves to be spoken about, and I can't wait to share about her! :D Hehe, Excited...

Love you, mummy! :)

Lunch with Marcus Yee

I'll take each day as it comes. Whatever happens is already out of my hands. God's in control, so why be frustrated and sad about it? Instead, I choose to smile. I'm really, genuinely happy.

It's in the middle of exams and I'm still not losing too much hair. The pimples are annoying, yes but who cares about physical appearance, right?

History test over, lunch with the guys! I'm a girl. I was the only girl in the midst of 5 eligible bachelors. Haha. Maybe I'm over-exaggerating. I had lunch with 5 very interesting guy friends of mine. Brandon, Tze Kwang, Yong Teng, Zhi Hao and.. the one and only Marcus Yee. (I can't wait to see his reaction when he reads this;) )

I learnt a lot about Marcus in one lunch...
1. He complains a lot. But in a very funny, playful manner. I was shocked, then I laughed. He explained why he complained so much, then I laughed again. Seriously amusing. You had to be there.
2. He eats veggie! We non-veggie-eaters (Brandon, Zhi Hao and myself) dumped greens on Marcus' plate. And he ate them ALL! Hehe.

Marcus learnt some things about me too. Some of which he didn't believe at first because the guys kept poking fun at him. He could take it. He's strong enough I believe. Yes, boys will be boys but you have to remember that I was still a girl no matter which way you turned the table. He learnt that I lived in Sabah for a while. He also learnt that I don't like veggie, obviously. It was a fun lunch.

Brandon was also my hero today. When some random purple shirt guy sneaked one too many glances at me, Brandon stared him down and I never had to see his face looking my way again. Thank you, Brandon! I know these things are inevitable, but with friends like these, I know I'll be able to cope. I hate it, but I'll cope. Being a girl isn't so fun after all, but I manage ;)

Ooh! Ooh! Sour apple jelly/ice-cream. My reward for finishing my History test. Fail or not. Hehe:D Yes, I was one very happy girl. So.... SMILE. IT CONFUSES PEOPLE.
Even if there were moments I was thinking not so happy thoughts, I smiled. Cause what's a better feeling than that? :)

Glance once, glance twice

Yeah, I turned my head to look out for you, but you never showed. I'm so used to seeing you, and talking about you to my best friend the previous night didn't help.

Why did I have to go there? I shouldn't have discussed you so candidly. You deserve better. You're so innocent. One of the things I love about you. Then I wonder if I'll even be good for you. What if they're right? We don't belong together. We're so different, but you do make me smile.

You haven't even admitted you like me yet. What am I supposed to do with half-rate confessions? You didn't even say it to me. I see the way you look at me. The little things you let slip when we talk. The smile you have plastered on your face almost as big as mine sometimes. Your footsteps quickening because you just need to get to me that much faster before anyone else does.

My friends are afraid for me. They don't want me getting my heart broken again. But what I'M afraid of is breaking YOUR heart. Because as I'm saying this, I can't even tell you I like you. Maybe it's because you can't either, but I will not commit that easily. My heart and mind is wide open to all the possibilities out there. I will break your heart. In what way? I don't know yet.

I'll face each day as it comes. Solve each problem as it hits me. My own dragons are the hardest to slay, but with God by my side, I can slay the worst of them dragons. I hope to see you tomorrow. I hope you also open up more. Show me there's more to you than what I already know.

I know I promised I wouldn't blog anymore, but I just can't help myself.

Model For A Day

I can't wait! Something to really look forward to after the dreaded Mid Terms.. (This is my last post until my mid terms are over by the way ;) )

My aunt has asked me to model for her this coming 2 weeks holiday, post exams of course. Let's pray I don't get any results back by then to ruin my mood k?

I'm feeling super special because I'll be her only model for that one day. I have a feeling it's not going to be all fun, dressing up and putting makeup on. I always expect the best and worst. That's fair right? Anyway, the plan is to drive up to Penang for a night and have the photoshoot there, as well as visit with my grandaunt. If everything goes as planned, I get to take some awesome pictures with her as well. So excited! :D

I'll be modelling first and foremost... NEWSPAPER!! I am being 100% serious here. Haha. But I think I'd be willing to do anything at this stage to have some fun this holiday. I really have nothing planned, but this of course. Also, vintage dresses in high heels! That should be fun. I'm not sure how much fun the makeup part will be, so we'll just have to wait and see. Wonder if the pictures will turn out alright...

I know I'm not pretty enough to be an actual model but there's no harm in doing this as a favor to my aunt, right? Hehehehe :)

But if driving up there isn't a possibility, shooting here, in KL, isn't so bad either. I'd be happy to do it anywhere actually :) I'm just so happy she chose me.

Talk is good, not cheap

I'm sorry if I said one too many mean things about you, even indirectly. It's really time for me to be honest again, but I'm happy I've been nothing but honest to you and vice versa. Now you know almost everything.

I am still a little afraid of getting close to you, in every sense of the word, but talk is good. The more we talk, the more secure I am about where we stand in our friendship. Hopefully by now we both know there can be nothing more than just that. I know it, and you know it. I'm just really glad all the confusion and frustrating talks are over. Talking to you now as a friend really helps. Truly :)

Now, I feel like riding a scooter into a place called nowhere... Wouldn't that just be grand? :)

Faking strength

Just a touch of water on her fingertips. Being here alone, with her eyes closed, she can dream bout anything and everything. There's no one to wake her, no one to say it's foolish to dream that big.

"I'm gonna fly, mommy!"

I'm going to do everything in my power to succeed. No one can be mean enough to hurt me, no one can ignore me and have me care enough to feel sad about it. I've been pushed down way too many times to let anything or anyone leave a scar on me. You can try, I'll make myself an easy target for you to hit, but I'm not going to bruise. My mother had faith in me. It's about time I had faith in myself.

When I dream, the 'me' in my dreams is someone I admire. She has no fear, no enemies, no pain. She's completely happy.

Everyone sees me as strong. Sometimes, I wish they wouldn't. I know, it's why they look up to me in the first place. But what if I was faking it? What if my strength was just a really powerful facade of lies? No one would believe me. But I'm going to give them a reason to believe me.

I'm really going to be strong now. I've already lost some really good friends. I've lost some days of my life. I've lost some battles. I've lost a mom. But none of that is going to stop me from smiling, from working hard, from seeing everything in a better light. I can be strong, you just have to give me some time to work at it. Don't just say I'm strong for the sake of saying it because you think you know what I've been through. You don't. The same way I don't know what you've been through, but I don't tell you lies. I don't want to hear anymore about how strong I am. I don't want people to expect that from me. I break, but I'm going to work on not breaking so easily. Do you hear me now? I really hope you hear me now....

I love you mommy. I miss you so, so bad.

Poisoned

This is the most unexpected way to start a new month. I wasn't expecting this. Any of this...

I heard you'd been going through some things. I also knew it was along the lines of your family getting involved in your life, for good reason. I'm on your parents' side, did you know that? But instead of talk to me about that, you brought up a totally different subject. A topic of discussion I didn't even know could be discussed. That's when you poisoned me.
I didn't even know you and I were up for discussion. You are very much attached. Last year and this year as well. You have no right to look at me that way. You are not that much older. 18 is not a big number in my book. Now, I'm not sure if I'm mad at you or me for not making a bigger stand against this.

Poison is exactly what you are, what your words meant. Don't you remember what we used to talk about? All throughout last year, we talked about family, books, studies, the future. We were good friends who barely saw each other in person. Now I know that that was for the best. I liked you from afar. I gave you a nickname. "Little". You don't seem little in every sense of that word. Every aspect of you seems to be causing a bigger controversy every time you speak. But it's just between you and I, isn't it? No one else will know of the conversations we've had.

Day 1. We talk for almost the whole day.
Day 2. I tell you I feel haunted by the previous day and you give me no response.
Now. I'm having symptoms of a familiar illness. The same way I did when my heart was broken 3 years ago. It only happens when my emotional pain actually becomes physical pain and I lose all my strength to something called 'nocturnal seizures'. Only this time, my heart isn't broken. My heart as well as my mind is poisoned. Not broken, but poisoned. My thoughts of you are made of poison as well. I was so blinded. So very blinded. There's too much going on inside of me right now. My eyes are tearing, my stomach is aching, and my body is failing.
Work this out with me or leave and never come back? Because I can't pretend our conversation didn't happen. My guilt will be your guilt. And my pain will be your pain. How are you gonna deal with it?
